I left my money on the streets of Amsterdam
\nIt went up in smoke,
\nChicken wings and Coke<\/p>\n

I left my soul on the streets of Amsterdam
\nIf you find him, he is old,
\nBe nice: the streets are cold\u00a0<\/p>\n

I left my wishes on the streets of Amsterdam
\nAn old-timer told me of the fairies
\nThey grant wishes:
\nLook for them on the ferries<\/p>\n

I left my hopes on the streets of Amsterdam
\nIf they find their way home
\nTheir adventures should fill a tome\u00a0<\/p>\n

I left my heart on the streets of Amsterdam
\nIt was lonely
\nMaybe it will find a partner – nice and homely\u00a0<\/p>\n

I left my passport on the streets of Amsterdam
\nIf you find it, don’t find me
\nIt is right where it wants to be:
\nanywhere but with me<\/p>\n

I left my past on the streets of Amsterdam
\nIt has found friends amongst the ghosts and shadows
\nBut it still manages to furrow my brows\u00a0<\/p>\n

I left my body on the streets of Amsterdam
\nFrozen solid
\nA feet beneath the snow
\nDo not dig it up: not with the hoe or the plough\u00a0<\/p>\n

NOTE: the piece above is not meant to convey a negative view of Amsterdam: a truly lovely city. Though I have no intention of throwing away my passport, what I said about my passport in one of the stanzas above as well as the last stanza should give an idea of how I feel about the city were I to be jobless or in a tight fix \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
