{"id":787,"date":"2013-01-30T20:23:02","date_gmt":"2013-01-30T20:23:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/illumination2.wordpress.com\/?p=787"},"modified":"2021-08-28T11:10:47","modified_gmt":"2021-08-28T17:10:47","slug":"come-with-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itayemi.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/30\/come-with-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Come with me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Come with me<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Come with me<br \/>\nSays a close friend to me<br \/>\nThere is unpleasant task at hand<br \/>\nBut it needs must be done<\/p>\n<p>The day was dreary<br \/>\nThe Sun was weary<br \/>\nSuch days are for men to sleep like the dead<br \/>\nSo I put on a shirt of colour<br \/>\nTo put some light into the day<\/p>\n<p>My friend called it false<br \/>\nAnd bid me put on black<br \/>\nFor where we go<br \/>\nA pall is laid on all<br \/>\nA friend is passed on to who knows where<br \/>\nI knew he was in trouble<br \/>\nBut I only asked once or twice<br \/>\nAnd he said I need not worry<br \/>\nTime heals all wounds<br \/>\nNow he is dead and gone<br \/>\nI would that I need not go<br \/>\nBut I have dined at his table several times<br \/>\nAnd his sisters \u2013 don\u2019t they call me brother?<\/p>\n<p>The mother held the casket like life itself<br \/>\nThe father did not take it like a man<br \/>\nAs we filed past the coffin<br \/>\nI looked in and was surprised to find him in repose<br \/>\nIf it were a bed, I would have thought he was asleep<br \/>\nBut in the casket where he laid, the smell of death though faint was there indeed<\/p>\n<p>We stayed awhile<br \/>\nWith heads bowed in silent consideration of the pains of those alive<br \/>\nAnd the thought of the dearly departed<br \/>\nAnd after an hour or so<br \/>\nI asked my friend if he knew of what malady the young man died<br \/>\nLoneliness he said.<br \/>\nThe look on my face betrayed my lack of believe<br \/>\nBut he bid me hold my peace<br \/>\nI know I will know more in time<br \/>\nBut not in that place for respect of the dead and the sorrowful<\/p>\n<p>Could loneliness take so young a life?<br \/>\nI think my friend spoke in parables<br \/>\nFor stick and stones may break bones<br \/>\nBut thoughts of the heart<br \/>\nSurely, they may wrinkle brows<br \/>\nBut take life, I thought not<\/p>\n<p>Loneliness he said<br \/>\nMaybe I heard him wrong<br \/>\nIn that silent room in which he whispered<br \/>\nThe walls might have swallowed a syllable or two<\/p>\n<p>Time passed slowly<br \/>\nMeaningless in the room<br \/>\nWhile men rushed about in the gathering gloom<br \/>\nAnd the voice of one who lady luck had given a boon<\/p>\n<p>And as we bid the family adieu<br \/>\nI could not resist the urge to gaze for one more time upon that peaceful face<br \/>\nDrawing near I looked in again<br \/>\nWhat surprise!
